The international bartenders association has defined the standard margarita as being; 50% tequila, 29% triple sec and 21% fresh lime or lemon juice.  The combination is then usually shaken and served on ice.  For a frozen margarita, ice can be blended with the ingredients.  Either way they the drink is served with salt, or sugar, on the rim of the glass.  Instead of using triple sec you can use other types of orange flavored liquors.  If you are looking to add a different taste to your margarita you can also substitute other fruit flavored liquors.  The lime or lemon juice can also be substituted for sour mix or other fruit derivatives.

Tequila, the main ingredient in margaritas, has an extended history and can be used in many types of drinks.  However, the margarita is the most popular tequila based drink.  There are many myths and stories circulating about the invention of the margarita.  One dates back to Mexico City in 1934 when a bartender compiled a special drink, now known as the margarita, for a local named Marguerite.  Another story dates to the early 1940’s where in Tijuana, Mexico a local bartender invented the famous drink in dedication to famous actress Rita Hayworth.  There are a handful of other stories and stipulation still occurs.  However, there is no documented and traceable root to the invention of the margarita.

Margaritas are enjoyed today in restaurants, homes and bars around the world. Margaritas can be made with or without alcohol and in various sweet, tart, sour and tangy fruit flavors. While a good margarita can be made in a blender, it takes a specialized machine to make a great margarita! That is why people all over the country are trading in their blenders for frozen margarita machines. The best margarita machines make perfect margaritas both in residential locations and public places; such as, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.

Many of the public places that serve margaritas own a commercial sized margarita machine. Margarita machines can be an expensive cost to endure and that is why they are most often purchased to be used in restaurants and bars. For homes and smaller businesses there is an alternative to purchasing an expensive large capacity machine, renting. Rented machines come in handy for sporadic summer soirees and even indoor parties.

Generally, the cost of renting a machine includes delivery, pickup, setup, margarita mix, and even cups and straws. The only thing that will be extra is the host’s choice of alcohol. Together, the cost of alcohol and the cost of rental are often worth the expense because of the convenience. After all, no one will have to be on bartender duty and that makes the party enjoyable for everyone.
